Presented by Derby Folk
A double-header concert, bringing together folk music from both sides of the pond!
Pressgang Mutiny are Toronto’s Shantymen, dedicated to traveling the globe to discover shanties, works songs and the people who sing them. They have performed extensively at festivals and venues across Canada, the US, and Europe. With their dedication to showcasing and sharing the full breadth of one of the world’s first truly multicultural music, Pressgang Mutiny have collaborated with and learned from sea shanty singers and scholars from around the globe.
Whether performing a rollicking set of shanties from around the world, leading educational workshops for new and experienced shanty audiences, or interviewing other artists as part of their ongoing podcast The Shanty Show, the lads of Pressgang Mutiny are guaranteed to entertain, educate, and delight.
Doug Eunson (Melodeon, Hurdy Gurdy and Vocals) and Sarah Matthews (Fiddle, Viola and Vocals) perform for energetic ceilidhs, concerts and Euro Bals, and are well known throughout the folk scene. Based in Derbyshire, they are a duo that perform with great stage presence, fantastic vocals and harmonies, and first-rate musicianship.
In this concert set, they’ll draw on some of the finest English folk song repertoire and sing in glorious harmony, as well as performing English and European dance music in beautiful flowing instrumental tune sets.
